Political “influencers” discuss how to communicate in times of misinformation at NOVA SBE

Political “influencers” discuss how to communicate in times of misinformation at NOVA SBE

The Nova SBE campus in Carcavelos will host the Masterclass on June 26th, at 6:00 pm: Policies and not Politics – How Public Communication can save Democracy.

On the table will be real experiences on this new paradigm of governance and communication, led by Isaltino de Morais and Ana Mendes Godinho, two political “influencers”, considering the number of followers they have.

The mayor of Oeiras is one of the most active politicians in office on social media, with more followers on Instagram than the PS and PSD, and the PS deputy, candidate for the Sintra Municipal Council, former Minister of Labor, is one of the Portuguese women with the most followers on Linkedin.

Moderation is in charge of João Cepeda, responsible for the NPPI Communication Laboratory and former Director of Government Communication, João Pedro Oliveira and José Bourbon Ribeiro.

Promoted by the Nova SBE Public Policy Institute (NPPI), the debate focuses on direct and efficient communication of Policies – and not politicking – as a means of bringing citizens closer to democracy, stopping populism and combating polarization.

“Social networks and new communication channels have created a new paradigm, which goes far beyond importing what was done in the mainstream media, and which in some countries, including Portugal, is still largely ignored in the political space”, says the NPPI.

According to this newly created unit of NOVA SBE, the debate “with these two politicians, who have stood out in the effort to make politics more accessible to citizens, should help us answer an urgent question: how to communicate Policies with rigor and effectiveness in an increasingly noisy and misleading media ecosystem?”
